It's not for the weak at heart.
When I was living in San Francisco, finding new business wasn't a problem as most of my customers came from word-of-mouth.
But since I've been on this freelancing journey in Asia, I've discovered that finding clients is really hard. I mean, really hard. Part of my biz dev regimen is to constantly self-promote through email marketing and producing new promotional content.
Here are some videos I've produced just for that purpose.
I discovered I had a customer perception issue. Potential customers were looking at my content and my site and thought that I was a full agency with a staff.
That's a problem because the assumption was that my rates would be agency-expensive. At the same time I've been in this biz for over 20 years, I'm not seeking junior-level projects.
I made this video to help change that perception.
I can get a little weird.
Yes, I'm a full-stack designer and developer. Yes, I'm a User Experience specialist. I've also been on a creative streak my entire life. I want my clients to know that I'm not just a researcher or UX guy. I'm also creative at heart.
This video is more direct with a strong "Hire Me" call to action.
Being a little different.
More importantly, I want my content to catch the eye and engage viewers so they continue watching. Videos of screenshots and animated app screens on phones don't achieve that goal for me.
That said, I do make traditional "in situation" promotional videos when showcasing specific products I've made.
For example, this promo video for Cryptracker, a progressive web app I made to track your crypto portfolio in real-time.
This video was designed to showcase creativity as well as a peek into my personality. Yes, I'm a little weird. And I'm okay with that.
Coming soon to a screen near you.
That's it for now. Keep an eye out for my next video, social post, or whatever else strikes me.
